@tagged ### i can barely survive a night in my mindHonestly, you're here wanting to get a drink, and I'm here wanting to hit the water again, and yet look at where we ar--," The look Pridham had gotten from her second. It had, to the fury of them, made the feisty lady laugh quite a bit, after a few severe promises that they'll leave Rhoda immediately after the evening was out. Honestly! Which had led to her being here, in the dim light of one of the many diners and bars on the populated and often bustling island, which a drink in her hand and her eyes narrowed into comfortable but always watching slits. She wasn't looking to drink to get absolutely drunk. That was saved for the confines of her ship, where she knew one of the seamen would, most likely, drag her off the plank if she took an uncharacteristic tumble. Not that she did that often. She was a mature ship captain... right? The bar was bustling, just like the town. People in and out, a cheery bit of music floating from the corner, the barmaids and bussers working hard to keep up with the flow of customers, and tantalizing food moving out that made Pridham's stomach, despite having eaten only a few hours ago, rumble in desire. The hot headed captain, as of currently, was resting in a back corner, feet up on a chair and leaning back far enough that some might have thought she'd topple right down. The ale in her hand was being cradled more than sipped at. Honestly, she was watching, and waitiing. You never know what you might see in these types of places, and honestly, her time on Rhoda had proven to be quite boring so far. A dagger at her belt, she was both looking for a little fun, while watching herself. Brown eyes alighted on just what she might have been looking for. Red hair, and an eyepatch. The hair was more curious to her than the eyepatch--a little mainstream, through there was lots of pirates who had, ghastly to the thought of her, lost the use of one of their sight seers. Not something that Pridham ever wanted to happen to herself. She liked the orbs right where they were, and she wasn't about to want to put them anywheres else. Her chair legs cracked against the wooden floor as she moved to stand, feet coming down with a solid thump. The smell of musk and liqour was almost overwhelming as she stepped out into the fray. She wasn't deterred by something as bad as her nose getting repulsed, however. Nah, the lady moved forward, and didn't stop until her cup came down to rest on a different table, and a vaguely familiar face was assessed by her eyes. Not that they'd met often. Or even had more than a small conversation. In fact, she had the vague idea that this man would, otherwise, get on her nerves, if she wasn't messing around tonight and not looking to act like a captain. "Cynric. If I'm right. If I'm not, you'll just have to pretend to go by that name for the rest of the evening." Eye's glittered, and a hand reached to yank a chair over. (ooc: i dunno this might suck i just went where my muse took me omg Cynric Oxworth} don't they remind you of just how feeble we are?

I'LL BUY MY WAY TO TALK TO GOD SO HE CAN LIVE WITH WHAT I'M NOT Could it be? Was Cynric really just sitting there, not causing trouble for once? It was an odd sight for sure, the red head sitting by himself with a strong drink in hand, boots resting on the table in front of him as he peered over his glass and examined from his little corner, content with just watching the show. Of course, anyone would know that this was simply the calm before the storm. Fortunately, drinking calmed him, but like any drunk he could get carried away and it would only be so long before he'd start up something.
For now, with the liveliness of the entire room, he listened in on the conversations of the quiet and tried to tone out the loud drunks singing along to the music in such a horrid fashion. Not that he could say much. He'd probably be joining them after a few more drinks. He chuckled at the thought as he dunked his head back and downed the last of his vodka, wincing slightly at the burning sensation left in his throat. Yes, he was already starting to feel the effects. Wouldn't be long now.
Then out of nowhere, another drink landed on his table. For a moment, he wondered if he'd accidentally ordered another drink already. But then he raised his glance to spot the woman standing there. She seemed awfully familiar. Normally, that'd mean nothing to the con artist as he was quite familiar with plenty of women due to his... hobbies. But this woman stuck out and it was taking him longer than he'd like to remember her.
"Cynric. If I'm right. If I'm not, you'll just have to pretend to go by that name for the rest of the evening." The one eyed man gave a toothy grin, seeming amused. "And what would you want with that scoundrel?" he questioned, playing dumb. He could only play the act for so long though, especially when he finally got around to placing a name to her face. "Pridham, was it?" he continued once she'd seated herself. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" he smirked. It wasn't very often he had people looking for him and usually it was never good. But call it a hunch, he didn't think he had much to worry about in this situation. Still nice to know, of course. Even if it were just a little conversation between acquaintances. @tagged ### i can barely survive a night in my mindOh, sweet alcohol. It was a drug. It was a temptation. It was the finery of the pirating world. It also made people, under most circumstances, do utterly stupid things. Now, this wasn't to say that Pridham hadn't had her fair share of drunken stupors that left her remembering less of the night than she'd like. Usually, it ended with her first mate dragging her back onto the ship. Other times, she'd went head over heels into a ditch, or worse, a fight, because she liked her fair share of those. For the most part, though, she was able to keep her head. Whether she'd keep the '31 days not drunk' line going or not, would prove itself at some point.
Either way, tonight she was more interested in what she could do relatively, if not completely, sober.
Nothing like a little straight whiskey to clear your sinuses's though. Or vodka, for that matter. That was the extend of Pridham's thought process as she crossed the room, and she wasn't all that interested in thinking about much more. Redheads were a bit of a weakness, after all. The room was certainly bouncing, though. It seemed to be getting more crowded by the minute, but Pridham wasn't complaining. Meant less eyes were on her, and less could happen to distract her--whether that meant the same thing for Cynric was another matter.
No, she definitely wasn't planning on sharing, or buying him for that matter, any drinks. Pridham was rather sure that she might be able to do the reverse at some point, and may have had some ulterior motives when it came to the half empty glass. But for now, she had to fight against, and fail, the rising half smirk that was moving up on her lips. Her hand planted on her hip, which jutted out. On her ship, she could be herself. Here, there was a bit more effort put into making an appearance--but it didn't look like she'd have to, because recognition finally flickered.
"Captain Pridham to you. Preferably just captain. Sounds better that way. Occasionally scoundrels intrigue me, especially slightly familiar ones." She was more one to skip the whole catching up business. She doubted he wanted her life story anymore than she wanted his. Seated now, one leg crossed lazily, and her drink swirled lazily in her hand, "Pleasure is right. I was observing the room, and you happened to be what caught my attention. How could I say no to a little... catching up?" Perhaps that was skirting the truth a bit. What did that matter? don't they remind you of just how feeble we are?

I'LL BUY MY WAY TO TALK TO GOD SO HE CAN LIVE WITH WHAT I'M NOT Pridham. Yes he remembered doing... business with her before. That was honestly saying a lot as he didn't make a habit of remembering anyone he'd dealt with unless they were worth something. And though he had a little trouble at first, clearly she was worth remembering. And so here he was, watching as she posed with a hand on her hip. If he remembered correctly, she was a rather proud captain and he might have tried to win her ship at one point. But clearly that didn't work out as she was still sailing and he, unfortunately, was not. No hard feelings, of course. In fact, he'd quite enjoyed her company. It was a real shame he'd nearly forgotten her. He supposed now was the time to make up for it.
"Captain Pridham to you. Preferably just captain. Sounds better that way. Occasionally scoundrels intrigue me, especially slightly familiar ones." Cynric smirked playfully, expression quickly changing to feigned embarassment as he quickened himself to correct his mistake with a twist of his hand and a mock bow. "Forgive me, Captain." he corrected himself with a wink, pushing up the rim of his bandanna as if it were a hat. He could humor her. He was quite the humorous fellow, after all. Or so he'd been told. Besides, to be honest he knew she wasn't exactly the type to go off and anger. It was in his best interests to play nice. For more reasons than one.
It would seem tonight was in his favor as she seemed to be intrigued by a Scoundrel. How lucky! It was him! Again, though this was something that might have concerned him normally, he didn't feel much need to fear now. Whether that was because he trusted the woman enough or was a little more drunk than he'd originally though. Either way, all was good and he was certain it could only get better. Such the optimistic, he was.
"Pleasure is right. I was observing the room, and you happened to be what caught my attention. How could I say no to a little... catching up?" Pleasure. It could possibly be a really fitting word if things went his way. But he shoved that little thought aside for now, reminding himself he was actually in a conversation that he needed to attend to. "I'm honored, really." he chuckled, resting his chin in his palm as he examined the captain before him. "To think little ol' me would catch your attention." he continued, milking it for all it was worth. "But, tell me, what kind of 'catching up' were you hoping to do?" he questioned, mischief lacing his words. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

487 i can barely survive a night in my mindThere was a certain something about making memorable first impressions that Pridham truly enjoyed. There weren't many things in the world that she feared, but going down without making a name for herself was one of them. Maybe that was shallow. Some of the crew thought it was a petty, and she knew it, but Pridham didn't entirely care. All that she really cared about was the fact that here she was, with a drink in her hand, escaping her duties as Captain for a few minutes and taunting the man in front of her. Well, not so much taunting as toying, really. What did it matter in the end? She still had her wits about her, and that was what mattered right now.
Her own, slightly playful laughter filled the air, carrying in the muggy atmosphere of the room. Her own, characteristic half smile twisted up as she shifted her weight slightly, "This time I will, but only because it's you." Not that he meant anything to her besides a brief past encounter and whatever would come of what was slowly easing into a fine evening. Her voice was barely more than a drawl. She was not close to Cynric. She could not have told anyone anything about him besides the fact that he currently wasn't on a ship--and she wasn't entirely certain whether, if the matter ever came up, that she'd want him on hers. Mostly, she just didn't entirely trust the man, but what was trust over a few drinks?
Her drink raised to her lips, scalding her throat and clearing out her airways as she swallowed. She could remember a time when such strong liquid would have left her coughing and her first mate trying to keep her calm composure over Pridham's reaction. She'd changed for now. Drinking this straight would hit her fact if she wasn't careful, especially having eaten a little, and with the scoundrel in such close quarters, and Pridham's mind very much set on him, she'd have to keep a careful eye on just how much she consumed. Captain or not tonight, she didn't leave much room for mistakes or mishaps. By her fathers advice.
But any inner thoughts went by without notice as she leaned forward, cheek resting lightly on her fist as her elbows leaned forward against the table, drink swung lazily in the free hand, causing the golden liquid to swirl. "Might've been I recalled a certain charm about you. Hopefully you won't prove me wrong." His tone made her lean her head back, shoulders shaking a tad as she laughed again. Her legs crossed, followed by another sip of her drink, "Someone like you must have some stories on how the non-pirating life is treating you, hmm? Don't leave a lady bored in the evening, Cynric." A bit of a double meaning. Her own words were similarly playful, along with that white toothed smirk. don't they remind you of just how feeble we are?

I'LL BUY MY WAY TO TALK TO GOD SO HE CAN LIVE WITH WHAT I'M NOT "This time I will, but only because it's you." He nodded his head in acknowledgement before taking another swig of his drink. Graced with the forgiveness of Pridham himself?! He was truly touched, chuckling at the thought. Forgiving him might have been the biggest mistake in other situations, however Cynric was kind enough to not take it so lightly or at the very least not blatantly ignore it entirely, which was about as good as you could expect from him. Cynric was by no means an evil man, however he could be quite self-centered and as long as there was some sort of gain, who cared if he 'betrayed' someone. This was a dog eat dog world, after all. One had to do what they could to survive. But at least he was charming about it. Sort of. One simply had to learn how to brighten up when in his presence. It was pretty much the only way to tolerate him.
"Might've been I recalled a certain charm about you. Hopefully you won't prove me wrong." Ah yes, his charm. It was his only real saving grace, quite literally in fact in many past instances. People fell for him easy, and he was quite good at manipulating that power to get what he wanted. That was perhaps the only reason he wasn't sitting in a cell right now. Women were quite attracted to him because of it and if he wasn't making a name for himself as the treacherous dog, he was often referred to as the sly dog, a title he preferred honestly. He had little doubt that this might have been why Pridham graced him with her presence and he certainly wouldn't complain. Of course, the always suave Cynric just sat back and decided to see how this would play out first. He was in no rush as he still needed to finish his drink. "Well, Captain, I can assure you that you need not worry. How else do you think I'm still roaming free these days?" he questioned, not at all shy about bringing up his hobbies. In fact, he sounded rather proud to have eluded such a dreaded fate. Hell, half the people in the bar now were probably crooks and thieves. What did he have to worry about? Besides, it was starting to become common knowledge around these parts. Enough so that he might have to juggle the idea of jumping Islands for a while. He didn't want his fun going stale anytime soon.
"Someone like you must have some stories on how the non-pirating life is treating you, hmm? Don't leave a lady bored in the evening, Cynric." There was the slightest of falter in the man's cheery grin as mention of his non-pirate life was brought up that most likely would have went unnoticed. He still wasn't exactly over being booted from the life he'd known for nearly 15 years by a bunch of spineless cowards, but he managed to keep that little bitterness hidden under a charming facade, not wanting to ruin the moment. "Wouldn't dare!" he proclaimed, sounding almost shocked that she could even consider such behavior from him. He'd never let a lady go bored. Not when he was around. Of course, the playful smirk returned now, a lively spark in his one good eye.
"I might have a few." he admitted in a coy manner. "Though surely nothing nearly as exciting as your stories." he explained. It was hard to tell if he was being genuine or if he was merely trying to flatter her. Either way, he didn't seem ready to open up just yet about his tales, instead being much more interested in talking about her. "I'd thought I'd seen your ship out in the harbor once when I was... wandering about." he began, smirking to himself at that little white lie. The less she knew about why he was out there, the better. "I don't know why it didn't click sooner that you were around. Perhaps I'd been in the sun too long." he reasoned playfully, knocking his noggin a couple of times for added effect. Wouldn't be the first time people wondered if he had a screw loose. "How long till you set sail again?" he inquired, leaning forward a bit more. Cynric was a bird with clipped wings, yearning for flight. To say he was interested was an understatement. Of course, you could never be too sure if his intentions were pure. He had quite the poker face after all. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS
