Besides being so large that almost everyone on Rhoda can make a joke about the Janovich's being overpopulated, Elias's immediate family is large in itself. Two sisters, Jordan and Lorilee, and two brothers, Matthew and Desmond, left Elias as the baby of the family. A farming family to boot, Elias was always a little bit different then the rest of them, caring more about seeing the world and exploring than anything. So while the rest of him family dreamed of taking care of the farm or going on pirate adventures or, like Matthew, getting in with the local physicians on the island, Elias was doing personal 'kid' research. Collecting leafs, ocean samples, dirt for goodness sakes, and just anything else he could get his hand on. His family had never been off Rhoda, but he'd hear stories of other islands, and it just fascinated the quiet, and somewhat unsteady boy who never seemed to be able to stay on his feet. There were islands with different climates? He wanted to know more about that! But he was a nervous little fellow. While not entirely shy, a rowdy number of siblings who always were heard first left him being more receded, more quiet. He would struggle through his teenage years with a sexuality he didn't think was normal (All his friends liked girls... and so did the bullies), along with his own self doubts. In time, Elias began to suffer from quite a bit of anxiety, both in himself, in situations he's in, and just worrying about most matters. What if he did that wrong? What if this work wasn't as well put together as he thought it was? His father wanted him to stick around the farm, just like he wanted the other two brothers to do, but as Elias grew he wanted to see more of the world. So finally, half shaking and half certain he'd just get turned away, Elias took a rather abrupt step forward in his early adulthood. He wanted to see other islands, but that meant being on a boat, and what was the better way to be on a boat then to... become a pirate? Elias wasn't really pirate material, but he could cook and clean, right? He just didn't want to touch a sword. Or a gun. Or anything else of that matter. Thus began his 'Darwin' researcher life, traveling onboard his boat to see the world and research other, far off places. He's mainly interested in biology, and the different climates on islands that can still be so close to each other in the hemisphere, and the different races that keep popping up, because there has to be a reason behind the reason they appeared, right?
