PACK UP MY BAGS STOW THEM AWAY I'M BIDDING FAREWELL TO ALL THAT IS SAFE
These days, it wasn't very often he used his 'sea legs' as he was trying to adjust to life on land. However, after so long being out of water, it began to literally wear down the merman, to the point he felt physically ill. Was this what humans called 'homesick'? Surely not, he didn't want to believe that was the case. It wasn't as if there was anything tying him to the ocean anyway. He had lost almost all contact with his family once he'd grown up old enough to take care of himself and admittedly, he preferred the company of humans to the lonely seas, something you'd probably never expect to hear from merfolk. But it was the truth for him nonetheless.
Try as he might, he wasn't able to abandon his roots it seemed. He simply couldn't get around the fact he'd have to return to the ocean, if only for a short while. He wasn't as human as he tried to make everyone believe. It might not even be a stretch to think he'd started to believe he was one himself. But it was times like this he was reminded otherwise.
Zale sighed, floating ontop of the surface and allowing the surprisingly gentle waves to rock him. The ocean was calm today and admittedly, he found that comforting. The salty water licked at his skin, long hair blending in with the dark ocean water. There wasn't even a cloud in the sky and the gentle breeze only seemed to make the area seem more peaceful, almost to the point that the male might have fallen asleep. Wait... What was he thinking about?
He could have sworn he'd only blinked, but the sky seemed a bit darker than he'd remembered. More disconcerting was the fact that the waves seemed a bit more troubled that they were before, and it only took him a glance to the side to discover why.
Golden orbs widened in shock at the approaching ship before he quickly dived under water, out of sight. How could he have fallen asleep like that?! He was much more tired than he'd originally thought, it would seem. But even then, he should have surely noticed the ship much sooner. What might have happened if he woke up too late? He'd like to hope he wasn't that hopeless, but still he couldn't stop scolding himself, glaring at the ship's shadow as it grew closer. Now would have been the time to make himself scarce before he could make anymore mistakes. But, despite his better judgement, he decided to stick around, curiosity getting the best of him. How else do you think he'd managed to grow legs if it weren't for that accursed curiosity? At the very least, he managed to keep himself from being seen. Or, at least, he thought he had.
